Identified as a climate change hotspot region by the IPCC, the numerous effects of climate change - including increasing water scarcity, rising temperatures and growing rates of desertification - are felt across borders in the Southern Mediterranean region. The increasing frequency of climate change impacts affects both socio-economic development and the geopolitical environment. The multi-dimensional nature of climate change calls for a coherent and coordinated multi-sectoral response.
The EUR 6.9m Project will feature 4 key experts and will have a 48-month duration.
This intervention - supporting a regional approach in order to support the transition towards sustainable, low-carbon and climate-resilient development - is therefore timely. The achievement of the three result areas will lead to enhanced energy security and adaptive capacity of partner countries, fostering their transition to low carbon and climate resilient economies. This will subsequently contribute to more stable, efficient, competitive and climate-resilient socioeconomic contexts, while increasing energy sovereignty and reducing emissions.
