A study tour on EU waste management approaches was organised in France between October 8-15, during the last phase of the project ‘Support to the introduction of sustainable development policies in Turkmenistan’. The study tour is dedicated to the implementation of waste policy in France, as a typical approach of those implemented within the European Union and framed by EU directives. The main purpose of the training was to introduce participants to policies, strategies, plans and programmes related to waste management in the European Union in general, and in a Member State in particular. Another goal of the training was to learn about European practices concerning the concrete implementation of waste management policy of both municipal, solid and industrial waste.
During the study tour, meetings were organised with French political, administrative and business actors within the field of waste management. At the national level, a meeting with the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Sea (MEEM), and the national French Agency for Environment and Energy Efficiency (ADEME), was held to discuss good practices in waste management. The participants also met with representatives from French companies, working in close partnership with the regional administration, so that the delegates were trained in reconciling the private goals of profitable business with public interests.
The State Committee on Environmental Protection and Land Resources was represented by the Director of International relations - Mr. Berdy Berdyiev. The team of experts for SDP were; Mrs Ovezberdiyeva Amangul – Environmental expert, Mr Benoit Plaige and Mr Yepbar Kepbanov – waste experts, accompanied by the Team Leader - Mr Jean-Jacques Dautet.
