The first session of the event opening, speeches were delivered by Mr Ramazan Seçilmiş Head of Combating Irregular Migration Department at the MoI, Mr Özkan Demirel, Head of IPA Unit at the MoI, and Mr Alexander Fricke, Head of Section for Civil Society, Fundamental Rights, Judiciary, and Home Affairs at the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey.
The Team Leader, Mr Mamtimin Ala, presented the current situation of Turkey in migration management and statistical data on irregular migrants, by highlighting the strategic role of the project both for Turkey and the European Union. The 2-year project is to help the country's legal and administrative framework in the field of migration management, by enabling a well-functioning migration management system in line with the EU acquis and EU standards.
This HD-led project will support Turkey in establishing one of the most vital systems on migration management in the region. Our team of experts are working with the Ministry of Interior to build and improve the institutional capacity of the Directorate General of Migration Management (DGMM) for nationality identification through a piloting Language Analysis System (LAS) .
The project will cover such activities as technical events (study visits etc.) to learn from best practices of language analysis, setting up a pool of professionals and academic network for linguistic advice for nationality determination, pilot implementation of language analysis system, development of e-learning programmes and an online library, and establishing networks etc. to facilitate intra- and inter-institutional and international cooperation.
HD’s experts will be launching comprehensive training programmes for DGMM's staff at the central and local levels and staff at other relevant agencies such as law enforcement departments.
