Strengthening of the Metrology System in Bosnia and Herzegovina

This 18 month EU financed Project on „Strengthening of the Metrology System in Bosnia and Herzegovina“ will kick off during June 2009.

The overall objective is to further develop the quality infrastructure in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), in line with the provisions of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), and to create an enabling environment for the BiH industries and manufactures to improve their trade and industrial relations with the EU and international markets.

The project aims at developing a distributed metrology system according to existing models found in EU Member States, harmonising current national metrology infrastructure according to internationally recognized quality metrology services. Moreover, to start preparing the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina for future membership in EURAMET, EUROCHEM, WELMEC, OIML and Meter Convention.

The results to be achieved are inter alias:

  • Improved legislation framework in order to meet requirements for harmonization with EU legislation.
  • Improved national metrology infrastructure in order to meet requirements of best practice EU laboratories.
  • Enhancing the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina for future integration in related European and international metrology organizations (EURAMET, EUROCHEM, WELMEC, OIML and Meter Convention).
