Design and implementation of a strategy of local and regional development of the Ungheni Judet, including development of the organisational structure of local authorities. To design of policies promoting local economic development and restructuring and strengthening financial and fiscal management.
Specific outputs included:
• A workshop on structural funds, SAPARD and agricultural policies;
• On-going mentoring and training for the Ungheni Chamber of Commerce, including training on project management. This was in response to the consistent wishes of the Chamber, expressed during the first missions to Ungheni;
• Review of the proposal for the Special Economic Zone in Ungheni;
• Needs assessment for economic restructuring and development of existing local plants and factories;
• Conference and workshop on regional development planning in Ungheni;
• Promotion of closer cross-border economic links with Iasi in Romania;
• Work towards the final development Strategy for Ungheni. This ensured that the Strategy proposals would be realistic and would contribute to the eventual successful implementation of the proposals made.
