Round Table on Energy Security of Ukraine: Risks of the New Decade

On March 10, 2011 representatives of the Coal Sector Policy Support Programme in the Ukraine took part in a Round Table on Energy Security of Ukraine: Risks of the New Decade organized by the Bleyzer Foundation with the cooperation and support of Human Dynamics, represented by Dr. Oliver Mader, Project Director of the Coal Sector Policy Support Programme in the Ukraine and Ivan Davydov, Project Manager.

A number of presentations were made throughout the course of the Round Table on key topics: Investment climate of Ukraine in the context of energy security in the country (Oleg Ustenko, Executive Director of the Bleyzer Foundation); Losses and risks of the Ukrainian economy: Energy aspect (Vasyl Yurchyschyn, Director of economic programmes at the Razumkov Centre); Is the coal sector capable of providing energy security to the Ukraine? (Ildar Gazizulin, leading expert of the International Centre for Prospective Researches); Reforming the fuel and energy complex of Ukraine: Energy security aspects (Sergiy Diachenko, leading expert on energy programmes at the Razumkov Centre) and a final presentation on key recommendation to the Ukrainian coal sector’s development held by Mr. Wojtek Mlodziejewski, Team Leader of the Coal Sector Policy Support Programme in Ukraine.

The participants of the discussion included representative of Verkhovna Rada of the Ukraine, well-known energy experts and also representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, such as Hans Rhein, First Secretary of the Delegation of the EU to Ukraine, responsible for energy issues, as well as Vaclav Voacek, Project Manager of the Energy Sector. After the Round Table the media held a number of interviews with the discussants.
